Sunday Batch Cooking

Batch cooking sounds efficient until you are standing over three pans at once with an onion half-chopped, a roast you can't tell is done, and six containers in the fridge that all look like brown. We started Sunday cook-ups in our second month in the flat: one long afternoon, five dinners, weeknights that only needed reheating. The first two Sundays were chaos. This scene follows the third one, in order — the prep that took longer than the cooking, the long slow bits on the hob and in the oven, and the moment everything went into the fridge with a name and a date on it. Nothing here is restaurant gear; it is the middle of the range that survives being used every week. Expect to spend between $120 and $220.
